Rewind and Review: The Jenna Thing Got More Intruiguing

Photo by Jaime Trueblood/Disney Enterprises (via IMDB.com)
In the little town of the Pretty Little Liars, we have a teenager exploring her urges to be with another girl, a sister who can't stop herself from getting a taste of what big sis has, a daughter who fucked (in both the literal and figurative sense) with her mother's life, and a student who has the hots for her English teacher. And we haven't reached the tip of the iceberg just yet!
Let's rewind and review what just happened, and what remains a mystery.
But before that, let's get ourselves in the mood with the opening sequence of the show, which is pretty cool!

What just happened?
  1. That Jenna Thing was actually the girls going along with the prank of Ali to get back at Toby Cavanaugh, but instead, accidentally blinded Jenna. Ali's queen and she's having none of the stalker tendencies of this guy. Then again, we didn't get a clear view of Toby. Hmm...
  2. The girls watch as the stink bomb prank goes awry. (Photo from Spoiler TV)
  3. Emily continues to get confused, but does find her footing a bit. The writing angels must have blessed the writing to be able to include this dialogue (Note: The italics are my own):

Maya: Do you have a side?
Emily: Sorry? Trust the confused girl to think everything's related to where she swings.
    Maya: Of the bed! Duh.
Emily: I kinda sleep in the middle. Now, that's a statement, coming from her.
Maya: I um...kinda sleep in the middle too. She caught on quickly. How laughable though was that the come-hither look she did when she went for the full front on the bed.
  4. The travails of Hanna with Officer Darren Wilden, continue. Just a side note, I can't believe we forgot to mention that the investigator is Bryce Johnson! We're big fans of his work in that little show Ryan Murphy had, Popular. Going back to the plot, he still doing the dirty deed with Mrs. Marin and even stayed over for breakfast. I felt she went the extra mile with those eggs. She's not the I'll-cook-for-you kind of woman.

  5. After a couple of flirtatious encounters with Wren, her sister's fiancee, he finally kissed Spencer! They've been quite the chatty would-be in-laws, and the sexual tension between them, in the pilot, were unmistakable. She got herself a back rub from him, no less! And in this episode, he attempts small talk, "Still having trouble with your bursa sac...should I give you another rub?" Well, she did decline the offer for the back rub, but didn't put up any struggle, when he went in for the kiss. Too bad (or good), the her older sister saw them, and promptly kicked him out.

  6. And then we have Aria and Mr. Ezra Fitz. This must be our favorite coupling right now. The chemistry between them cannot be denied! They've been trying to deny their feelings since the time they found out he's her English teacher (which wasn't too long ago, actually) and it can't get enough The Notebook on us when they did the wet in the rain, but hot for each other kiss! But it was particularly sweet, and not as carnal as their initial encounter was. It must be the nice music they had on the background! Oh, and that lingering look a couple has, when they know something more is there. We do recognize that it was in the comfort of car, while in the movie, it was on the wall.

Mysterious and loving it!
  1. Who is the mysteriously creepy, but most definitely a stalker, texter A?
  2. What's the deal with Alison and what is she hiding? Okay, she's Queen Bee and treats her little four girls like bitches in the prison. Did you catch the line, "Emily could you put it on me?"
  3. Is Jenna A, as Spencer's surprised look at the dying minutes of the show suggested?
  4. Not really a mystery, but questions about the future. Will Wren pursue Spencer, now that they're free to do so? Or was Spencer just into him because big sis still had him?
  5. Will Emily break up with her boyfriend and pledge her undying liking to Maya, who seems as into her as she is?
  6. How will Ezra and Aria keep their budding May-December romance a secret, especially now that she knows she's being spied on?
We end with a poignant quote from Aria's dad, Byron, on whether he loved his other woman, which I think puts into perspective what the girls are going through:
I had very strong feelings for Meredith and my attraction to her took me completely by surprise. I had no intention of being unfaithful to your mother and you're too young to understand this, but the truth is I gave into my emotions.
